SUMMARY:Tree Trail Trek with Desiree Mendoza & Jeremy Tometczak
DESCRIPTION:\n\n\n\n\nCastroville Regional Park, meet by amphitheater.\n\n\n\nParticipants will begin in the park’s demonstration garden, where we’ll explore both native and non-native tree species to identify them and understand their roles in the landscape. From there, we’ll take a short walk to a grove of native, and largely edible, trees planted by Bexar Branches Alliance. This stop will highlight the importance of planting native species and demonstrate how grouping plants in “guilds” can help create a resilient, food forest–inspired landscape, no matter the size of your space. We can discuss the other “layers” that are typically present.\n\n\n\nThe walk will conclude along the Medina River, where we’ll discuss ongoing riparian restoration efforts led by the park and TWRI (Texas Water Research Institute), with a focus on the native species planted to stabilize the banks, improve habitat, and support a healthier river ecosystem.\n\n\n\nJune 11, 2026 5:30 PM- 7:00 PM\n\n\n\nWalking path consists mixed terrain. Grass, gravel, street, dirt. Diverted path some can walk along bank some can walk up top on flat surface.\n\n\n\nRegistration is required. \n\n\n\n\nSign up here! ( https://arcg.is/1Tnmre3 )\n\n
