Tree Trail Trek with Blanca Reyna

Central Library, meet at Latino Collection & Resource Center Gallery

Since pre-Hispanic times, Indigenous Peoples of the Americas have regarded trees as sacred and essential to life on Earth. For millennia, they have maintained a profound spiritual and cultural connection with trees, honoring them as living relatives rather than mere resources to be consumed. This relationship reflects a deep understanding of reciprocity, respect, and the recognition of trees as sacred, sentient beings.

This presentation will discuss the interconnection of trees in Mexican culture through its Indigenous roots and will explore the role of trees in cosmology, spirituality, myths, art, history, and daily life.
This program will begin indoors, in the gallery space of the Latino Collection & Resource Center and will end with an outdoor Tree Trek to visit some native Texas trees.
