Tree Trail Trek with Stephen Fonzo

The Trees and Ecosystem of Southside Lions Park Lake

Description: We will take a leisurely walk around Southside Lions Loop, where you will learn to recognize the most common trees in the park. We will discuss topics such as the importance of water and biodiversity, the effects of flooding and land disturbance, indigenous plant use, local history, and opportunities for eco-volunteering.

Head to the East entrance of Southside Lions Park at 4600 Pecan Valley Dr, San Antonio, TX 78223. Once you enter the park, turn right and continue driving straight. Follow the road until you reach the East Trailhead for the Salado Creek Greenway South—look for the signs and sculptures marking the trailhead. Parking is available directly across from Pavilion 2.

Walking path consists of mixed terrain: We will stay mostly on paved asphalt paths, with some brief detours on uneven natural dirt/grass with roots and rocks.
